It is not often that I award five stars as that implies perfection. However, so far as Tauranga Lodge is concerned I believe it has earned its five stars and thus do not hesitate in awarding that level. I guess that technically Tauranga Lodge is a B&B but such a technicality does an injustice to the place and its location. It is far more than your average B&B. Tauranga Lodge is located at Ohauiti some 15 kms due south of Tauranga and 24 kms from Mount Maunganui. The lodge is sited on just under 2Ha of land in a rural setting that holds an elevated and commanding position. This provides wide ranging views across Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and the Bay of Plenty area. Access to the lodge is via a country lane that winds through a mixture of suburban and rural areas and even involves crossing a one-lane, river bridge at one spot. I am not sure about bus services to the area but I did note a school bus uses Adrine Lane as a drop-off and turning point. It looks as though wheeled transport is a must for guests. A long, hedge lined driveway leads from Adrine Lane to the actual lodge. Access is controlled by a security gate. My wife and I spent two nights at the lodge as part of our wedding anniversary celebrations. On our arrival we were warmly greeted by Patricia who gave us a conducted tour of the guest lounge and rooms. From the time of our arrival it was clear that high service standards are in place and maintained. On entering the front door you cannot fail to appreciate the spacious and comfortable lounge area. Part of the lounge area is set aside as an area for dining. This is placed by windows that overlook the panoramic views. The tariff includes breakfast; either continental or something cooked that is more robust. The continental breakfast includes a choice of cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurt, toast, conserves, tea/coffee. Dinner is provided by arrangement with the hosts and is enjoyed at the same location with the same views. The lodge’s website includes the menu of courses available for dinner. The selection is not wide but is well prepared and presented. Pricing for dinner is more than competitive with restaurants in Tauranga or Mount Maunganui. Prior to dinner tempting canapes and an aperitif are served. Either Patricia or husband, Greg, socialize with guests prior to dinner. There are three actual guest rooms all of which are named after New Zealand native birds. My wife and I occupied the Pukeko Suite and my comments relate to this particular “room”. The passageway leading to the rooms has an annex that is set aside for guests use. This is equipped with tea and coffee making facilities plus biscuits/cookies that are available at all times. Pukeko suite covers a large area comprising a large bedroom, separate bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe/dressing room. The bathroom area is very generous in size and contains a large walk-in shower cubicle. There is a plentiful supply of hotwater and good water pressure. A handbasin, toilet and heated towel rail complete the fixtures. Towels are of high quality. An interesting touch is the inclusion of a black flannel which is designated for the removal of make-up. There are the usual supplies of soap, shampoo and other toiletries. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted with a set of drawers plus an area for hanging clothes. Dressing gowns and slip-on footwear are provided. A large mirror is included in the room. The actual bedroom is large with ranchslider doors leading out on to a small deck. This room enjoys the magnificent views common to the other suites and lounge area. The king-sized, double bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. Bed linen was fresh and crisp. The room included a TV, clock/radio, hairdryer, etc. Free wifi was available. All the areas were spotlessly clean and very comfortably furnished. The usual test of a place is, “Would I want to stay there again.” Answer, “Wouldn’t hesitate and highly recommend it to others.”

  •       Thanks for looking after us so well Patricia and helping us with useful information about Tauranga and surrounds. We really enjoyed our stay with you in the peace and quiet of the countryside along with the wonderful views. You went out of their way to make our experience a pleasant one. Wonderful Birthday Stay

We spent two days at the Tauranga Lodge and could not speak more highly of our experience. Patricia and Gregg were wonderful hosts and couldn't do enough to make our stay delightful. We had two breakfasts which were delicious and one dinner also which was delicious. Our room was lovely with every amenity we could wish for.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't conducive to exploring the area further but to come back to a cosy, upmarket destination was fantastic. Thank you so much Patricia and Gregg

Very Helpful BnB

We had a family wedding nearby and one of the members of the family stayed at the Lodge. 98 years old and she had an excellent experience. The room was very nice with a lovely view. The breakfast was excellent. Everything was clean and tidy. Greg & Patricia couldn't do enough to make her stay enjoyable.

This is a little bit of paradise. If you want to feel pampered and cared for in quiet, restful surroundings you will love it here. Patricia and Greg are truly the most wonderful hosts. They are gracious, warm, and welcoming while, at the same time, maintaining a professional manner. Their home is tastefully decorated, the view spectacular, the beds and linens lush and comfortable, and the food is delicious with exquisite presentation, all made with fresh locally sourced ingredients. We definitely could have stayed much longer. It is a very special place. If/when we visit New Zealand again we would definitely head back to a Tauranga just to stay at their lodge.

We started at the lodge our New Zealand tour. Patricia and Greg run the lodge with lots of charm and perfection. Spacious room, very nicely furnished, large bathroom. Breakfast is weather dependent served indoors or outdoors. Very varied and full. We have repeatedly enjoyed the lovingly prepared and very tasty dinner. The large property is very well located as a base for day trips to Coromandel, Rotorua, Hobbiton, etc. If desired, the helicopter came into the garden and took us to White Island. An absolutely unique experience, mediated by Patricia

Our room was very comfortable and decorated to a high standard. Breakfast was a feast with fresh fruit salad, home made muesli and a great choice of cooked food too. We had dinner there one night and looking around the table everyone enjoyed their meal. Karla and John use New Zealand produce as much as they can and love to support the local suppliers.

The hot tub was a treat and the smell of lavender as we soaked in it looking over Mt Maunganui was amazing.

We would definitely recommend staying two nights or more if you can to benefit from all the lodge has to offer.

As soon as we arrived, Patricia and Greg were there to greet us & instantly made us feel welcome, even though we had arrived a little earlier than expected. I would definitely recommend to have at least one evening dinner at the lodge as it was both delicious and the views to die for! Did i forget to mention the Xmas decorations were fab! Also, if you have the chance.....have Patricia organize a heli trip, you will not be disappointed... the helicopter will pick you up from the lodge. Cool!! The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed and the ensuite bathrooms were good too. The Lodge is beautifully decorated and we were certainly pampered in every regard. The afternoon tea on arrival was an unexpected treat and the cooked breakfast the next morning was excellent. AND on a clear night, watching the stars was breathtaking (being from Auckland our sky's are too lit up to see much). Patricia and Greg were even more amazing. The nicest couple I think I have ever met. And her cooking? Well - when you stay don't even think about dining out - the food is an experience on its own. This was so good when we stayed for 1 night last year that we returned for 2 this year.

Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable, with a large storage room for clothes, cases etc., and a modern bathroom with fluffy towels and luxurious toiletries.
The sitting areas are wonderful. The outside one has comfortable seating with lovely views over to the sea, and the lounge itself has big squashy settees and a huge TV with all the channels you could wish for.
As we did not want full dinner, Patricia cooked us two delicious supper platters, a vegetable frittata and smoked salmon fishcakes, enjoyed so much I asked her for the recipe for the frittata.
She and Greg were full of information on places to visit suiting our limited walking abilities, with maps and leaflets.
All through the stay they were concerned that everything was all right for us, and we were really sorry to leave

From the location to the large thick towels to the changing table decorations and place settings to the single rose in our room when we arrived, nothing could be faulted. We were the only guests for two nights which perhaps added to the seclusion of the place but once we got there we were very happy to eat Patricia's excellently prepared dinner in our own private dining room with a panoramic view, and watch the lights of Tauranga and Mt Maunganui appear and disappear as the autumn mists (and rain) swept through the Bay. “very relaxing B&B outside Tauranga”

I booked this based on the outstanding reviews and was not disappointed. The only caveat is that it is located 15 minutes by car from downtown Tauranga. That is mostly good (eg, very quiet), but it would be an issue if you wanted to have dinner with wine in town and drive home afterwards.

We arrived in the early afternoon, trying to escape rain in Taupo. The weather was distinctly better over Tauranga than everything we experienced to the south. We came before the posted check-in time, but Karla and John were very accommodating. The grounds and building were immaculate. The guest wing, living/dining area and guest rooms, were spacious and well-appointed. After a very enjoyable walk around Mount Maunganui and the adjacent beach boardwalk, we returned to a complementary glass of wine in the spa.

We opted for the "casual " dinner, which may well have been the singular best value we found during our stay in NZ. We were offered either salmon or venison as the entree. this was complemented by generous servings of salad, asparagus, bread, and freshly baked dessert. Music and the fire rounded out the ambience. I highly recommend that you opt for the casual dinner! Continental breakfast was similarly generous and tasty.

Do yourself a favor and make Tauranga Lodge a part of your NZ holiday plans. Words really can't do justice to both the thought put into this luxury accommodation, or the graciousness it's hosts. My husband and I stayed at Karla and John's B&B and we would highly recommend Tauranga Lodge to anyone who is looking for a friendly, beautiful B&B - We were looked after so well and thoroughly enjoyed the view, hospitality and everything! Karla and John think of all the details and extras that definitely didn’t go unnoticed - We had decided to have dinner there the second night that we stayed and they set up croquet on the lawn for us - even with a pre-dinner drink and nibblies placed right there for us. The lavender right outside the window, night light view and daytime views outstanding. Homemade baking placed there for us, fruit and lots of other finishing touches. Great conversation and felt completely relaxed after our visit. I loved the music Karla had playing and she even wrote the name of the CD down for me. Definitely go there if you are looking for a top quality B&B in the Tauranga are

“A very warm welcome”

We had a fabulous stay with Karla and John at Tauranga Lodge. A beautiful spot a few Kilometres outside of Tauranga on a fantastic spot overlooking Mt Montganui. The views are spectacular and the rooms all have a good view of the bay.

We started I the Tui room and it was beautifully appointed with wonderful attention to detail and the room was bright and excellently furnished. The bathroom was fabulously decorated and the little touches of fluffy towels, bathrobes and snacks in the shared corridor were a lovely touch. Really loved the beautiful Koha complimentary toiletries too. All the rooms looked fabulous with each having a table opened chairs on the lawn outside each. The gardens and flowers were wonderful and the lavender and roses outside of our room filled the air with a beautiful fragrance.

We were treated to delicious canapés and snacks with cheese before dinner and had a fabulous dinner out on the terrace with Karla and John and we sampled some very good wines too. John's salmon was fabulous and we just had to get the recipe from Karla.

Definitely a great place to stay if you're visiting the Tauranga Bay of Plenty area and if you love animals there were plenty of sheep around together with their resident elderly Collie Bubbles, who was delightful. A peaceful and tranquil haven with a very warm welcome, the standard tog accommodation was absolutely excellent.

“An incredible and amazing experience!”

We booked the fantail suite and had the most warming and welcoming experience thanks to the owners, Karla and John. We had first a glass of wine with some delicacies, on the grass in front of the villa where you can see the beautiful view onMountMaunganui, then we had dinner prepared by the hosts themselves (the salmon was just perfection, thanks John!). the dinner took place in the living room by the bay window where we could see the lights of Tauranga. the living room was decorated with such good taste and so warm and cosy, by the fireplace. We were the only guests in the villa (which counts 3 suites) so we were all by ourselves on the sofa after dinner where we could just chill and relax listening the song selection done by Karla! Last but not least, we finish our evening in the hot tub/ jacuzzi outside before going to bed. The breakfast the next morning facing the view was the perfect addition to our perfect stay ! It is filled with joy though a bit heartbroken that we left John and Karla who have made this stay unforgettable.

“Wonderful place to stay.”

We stayed 2 nights at Tauranga Lodge and the only complaint we had was that we had to leave! The view, décor, hosts Karla and John, are "up there with the best" Nothing is a trouble for them and the breakfasts and dinner we enjoyed, were superb. Even drinks at 6.30 with Karla and John were so enjoyable as well as the 'nibbles' provided by these two lovely people. The property is about 20 mins drive from Tauranga but central to so many wonderful attractions in the area. We wouldn't hesitate to h

“Exellent- pure luxury, relaxing and great hosts”

Tauranga Lodge is one of the best places I have stayed inNew Zealand. It's a little paradise. The view is amazing, the rooms are luxurious, very clean and tastefully furnished. Breakfast and Dinner are marvellous and Karla and John are great hosts. They help whenever they can and are very nice and friendly people. Couldn't be better. Thank you to them for the great time I had there. I can highly recommend this lodge to everybody. The perfect place to relax and to discover the Tauranga area or even for a trip to Rotorua.

“Great Host”

I stayed at the Tauranga Lodge with my partner for our summer holiday. The accommodation was fitting with the view - amazing. We were able to relax and enjoy the lodge, even playing a bit of croquet on new years. Karla and John have created a travellers haven here with luxury accommodation and delectable breakfasts. With the nature of the BnB we were able to meet travellers from afar and share stories and what tourist attractions were top notch in the area. Our hosts Karla and John were a pleasure to stay with and were knowledgeable, warm and friendly. I would highly recommend the Tauranga Lodge to anyone visiting the area.

Tauranga Lodge - A 5 star experience”

My partner organised for us to stay at the Tauranga Lodge this Jan, and it was amazing. The rooms were clean, comfortable and generous with great decor. Top marks Karla and John. Not only did we wake up to amazing views of Tauranga and the Mount but there was freshly cooked pancakes one morning, french toast the next or a continental breakfast when we ate too much! Karla and John went out of their way on more than one occasion, even making us lunch for us to snack on while dolphin watching. They also recommended some great attractions which we ended up doing and thoroughly enjoyed. We wholly enjoyed our stay at the Tauranga Lodge and would definitely stay there again the next time we're in Tauranga.

“The best in New Zealand”

Tauranga Lodge is the pinnacle of tranquility, cleanliness and friendliness. It is undoubtedly the best place we have stayed in our travels around New Zealand(and this is our seventh visit). Karla and John have created a truly relaxing environment with attention to detail which most five star hotels would be envious of. We cannot speak highly enough of them and the way that we were treated during our three day visit. If you are looking to stay in the Tauranga area, forget the run-of-the-mill places in the centre and drive out to Tauranga Lodge where you will not be disappointed.

Lovely property”

This luxury b&b is a bit out of town but it is worth the drive for the fabulous view back towards Tauranga on the coast. That's what you see from the front lawn and the dining room at Tauranga Lodge. This newly built property is very well appointed and you will receive a warm welcome from Karla and John. Your room, with en suite, is very private and comfortable. Guest meals are served (either indoors or outdoors) separately from the hosts. We had dinner (salmon) and breakfast. Tauranga is worth visiting, so you may wish to try the restaurants there during your stay.

Best lodge of our Trip!”

My wife and I traveled the North island in NZ for 2 weeks and stayed in 4 different high end lodges. The Tauranga Lodge was our favorite. The accommodations were roomy, comfortable and very private. The hosts (Karla and John) were extremely helpful and kind. We loved the location as well. Close to Tauranga and some great hiking areas with great views of the bay, yet just far enough from town to feel very quiet and serene. This is a true farm setting, complete with Red Devon cattle which John was kind enough to introduce us to - close up and person. But even with the quiet, serene farm setting, this was a true luxury experience. The highlight was the wonderful dinners that Karla and John served us. My wife and I are still talking about the meals. Breakfast, which is included, was also perfect. If you want a quiet farm setting, luxury accommodations, great food, location just near enough to activities, and warm, genuine hosts, then this is the place. If I could give 6 stars, I would.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. We selected the Pukeko Suite, which had the advantage of being at the end...

“Wonderful place and wonderful hosts”

Greg and I stayed at the Tauranga lodge for four nights for what we deemed our "baby-moon" - our last holiday together before our baby arrives in January. It was an absolutely wonderful place in every way. Karla and John went out of their way to make everything perfect for us and it was definitely a holiday to remember. They had some great recommendations for things for us to do, including the Saturday farmers market, which we loved and I would definitely recommend as we got lots of yummy food to take home with us. They bent over backwards to ensure that we had everything we needed, including lots of delicious home-baked treats.

We also had John take us to meet his Red Devon cows including a tiny calf who was only a few days old.

Overall a wonderful holiday and I would definitely recommend :-)

My partner and I just returned from a four-night stay. We absolutely loved the place. It's incredibly well-designed to allow for guest privacy and comfort, while still making you feel like you're being welcomed into a home. John and Karla were amazing hosts and we'll likely be back to see them again.

“Amazing in all respects”

I booked a nights stay at Tauranga Lodge for my parents for their 40th Wedding Anniversary. Karla and John were fantastic to deal with from the very beginning. They made Mum and Dad's anniversary one to remember forever. My parents enjoyed their stay at Tauranga Lodge and are looking forward to staying again on their next visit toNew Zealand. Every moment of their stay was perfect from the afternoon tea, pre dinner drinks, the dinner that was cooked by Karla and John, the room and the view!! Thank you Karla and John.

When you want to see the many places in Tauranga, the Mount and around theNorthIslandthis is the place to come back to as we did. Fishing off the coast, visitingAuckland, andWellingtonthe place to come back to for peace quiet and restful sleep this it it. John did a fantastic job with his local tour around his place made us feel like family. Their cooking skills are the best, with the occasional home baking a big treat. If you are into walking, riding bicycle, or almost any other entertainment you can think of the Lodge is not far from finding what you want. And if you cannot just as John and Karla they will know where to find it.

“Close to heaven”

My husband and I stayed with Karla and John in March 2013 for 4 days. They were so kind and understanding to us. They could see we were newbies to driving on the left and offered to take us around to see the sights. What a great day. The Lodge is fantastic. It's modern, tasteful, and comfortable. They have every detail beautifully covered. The sheets and towels are the best. The bed is super cozy. Every room has a view of the sweeping landscape to the harbor and Mt Maunganui. It's quiet and so peaceful sitting on the terrace. One can tell right away John and Karla like people and have a gift for hospitality. They are kind to leave you to your self or welcome you into their lives. We loved you stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

“Truly great service!”

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon - it turned out to be 2 of the best nights we had all trip. Everything from beautifully appointed rooms, a simply amazing view, farm animals and wonderful food. Most importantly however, Karla and John were the perfect hosts - the type of genuine service that is all too rare. Helpful holiday tips, a friendly drink on the terrace to serving us a home cooked meal one night which was simply beautiful! This is a must stay - we will definitely be back.

Perfect Weekend Getaway

Had the perfect weekend at the Tauranga Lodge. The most amazing hosts, such lovely people that truly went out of their way to make our weekend magnificent. The view is spectacular with the lodge overlooking Tauranga and Mt Maunganui. The grounds were well manicured and the lodge was immaculately clean, fresh and comfortable. The food was scrumptious with ample quantities and the baking was a real treat! Would definitely stay here again and thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
